Juric and Italiano make up on live television after ugly row

Ivan Juric made up with Vincenzo Italiano live on television after their ugly touchline row, but the Torino coach also snapped at the pundits. ‘I went over the line, but I can’t make promises about next time…’

The Granata had a goal disallowed for Duvan Zapata’s push on Nikola Milenkovic, then were furious to see Samuele Ricci receive two yellow cards in quick succession for an elbow on Nico Gonzalez and dissent.

Despite being down to 10 men for the entire second half, Toro held on and even had chances to win it themselves in this goalless stalemate with Fiorentina.

It damages the European ambitions of both clubs and leaves them floundering in seventh and 10th position respectively, but ended with Juric sent off for a touchline row with Vincenzo Italiano, watching the final minutes from the stands surrounded by Toro fans.

La Repubblica and Sky Sport Italia report that Juric made a ‘throat-slitting’ gesture towards Italiano when storming off and even said something to that effect too.

“These things happen when the adrenaline is running through your veins, you argue over silly things. Vincenzo is a friend as well, there was just a lot of tension,” Juric told Sky Sport Italia.

During the interview, Italiano came over and interrupted to hug Juric, who replied: “I was mean to him. We’ve had this intense duel for a while, I went over the line today and was quite rightly sent off. Of course, I can’t make any promises about next time…”

At least they hugged and made up live on television, putting the controversy behind them, and also showed Juric the footage of himself leapfrogging the dividing barrier to get into the stands.

“I saw a Torino side that created lots of chances and didn’t take them in the first half, that is always our problem. Then certain decisions raise the level of irritation and tension. Rather than talk about controversy, I’d focus on a great Torino performance.

“We had a disallowed goal, Ricci is if anything too polite, so to see him sent off for that…”

Juric remained irritable and tense during the post-match interview, reacting angrily to the question from the reporter about a ‘rediscovered spirit’ in this Torino side.

“Torino created seven scoring opportunities against Lazio and didn’t let them past the halfway line for 70 minutes, we did the same against Roma. If people ask questions based only on the results, then this means they have no knowledge of the sport.

“Against Lazio and Roma we had five shots on target against us and conceded five goals. The team was fantastic in all three matches. If you say that the spirit against Lazio or Roma was not formidable, then you are insulting my team. This was not a different Toro at all.

“There were simply some costly individual errors then that we did not have this time. It’s really disappointing, as they were our best performances of the season, we created dozens of scoring opportunities and we emerged with one point.”

Just to keep the theme going, Juric also made up with the reporter – Paolo Aghemo – and left with a smile.

Juric has been working in Italian football for a long time, first as a player and then a coach, so his fiery nature is well known to everyone.

He also famously was filmed having a physical altercation with Torino director of sport Davide Vagnati, but they too made up and continue to work together.
