Jurgen Klopp revealed he once took a photo with Lionel Messi in the same room as Cristiano Ronaldo – and it’s the only selfie he has on his phone, apparently.
The Liverpool manager, 55, bumped into Messi at an event a few years ago, where Ronaldo was also in attendance.
Like many others, Klopp couldn’t resist the opportunity to get a snap with Messi, who is widely regarded as the greatest footballer to ever play the game.
During a Q&A event in 2018, Klopp hilariously revealed: “I have only one selfie on my smartphone. That’s with Messi. Cristiano was in the room as well.”
However, he went on to say his father also told him Pele is the best player ever as he spoke to the crowd.
The German added: “My father always told me, whatever people people say in the future, Pele was the best.
“I met him actually, when I was a pundit at the World Cup in 2006.
“I’m not the type of guy who gets nervous but I was sweating like crazy in that moment.”
As for where he stands in the Messi vs Ronaldo debate, Klopp previously admitted that it is hard to separate the two.
But if he had to go with one, he would side with the Argentine over his Portuguese rival.
“For me Messi, but I couldn’t admire Ronaldo more than I do already,” he said during an appearance on YouTube channel freekickerz in 2020.
“The explanation is the following: we’ve played against both already and both are almost impossible to defend. But Messi has much lower physical requirements from birth on.
“If you could paint yourself a perfect player, it would have Ronaldo’s height, he could jump and run as high or quick as Ronaldo can do. And what is then even added to that is his total attitude, it is absolutely perfect and professional, it couldn’t be any better.
“And on the other side, there is the small Messi who makes everything look so simple. And therefore I like him maybe a little bit more as a player on the pitch. But Cristiano is also an absolutely incredible player.
“It’s really difficult, therefore, but what both have in common is that both have left their footprints for such a long time.
“There are also some younger players who have a similar potential, but to do that over this time period is even more incredible.”
