Fans of Bundesliga club Mainz unfurled banners criticising their former manager Jurgen Klopp during a 2-0 defeat to RB Leipzig on Saturday.

The German ended his nine-year stint with Liverpool in June, announcing that he intended to take a sabbatical away from fotball after "running out of energy" while in charge of one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

After just four months after from the game however, Klopp was controversially announced as the new Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull in October, with the ex-manager set to oversee strategy across all five of the clubs Red Bull currently own - including Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig.

The decision to return to football and be part of the Red Bull project - a project that has been heavily criticised by German football fans since they purchased and re-branded former fifth tier club SSV Markranstadt in 2009 - has been met with derision across Europe.

Fans of clubs Klopp has previously managed, despite his success, have also called out the German for his career move.

Mainz utilised their game against RB Leipzig over the weekend as an opportunity to express their disappointment in Klopp, unfurling banners which read:

"Have you forgotten everything we gave you?"

"Are you crazy?"

"I like people until they disappoint me."

Klopp is widely regarded as the greatest manager in Mainz's history, having brought the club up to the Bundesliga during his tenure in charge of the Rhineland club.

Borussia Dortmund fans have also recently expressed their disappointment in their former boss too, with many taking to social media to voice their feelings.
