Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has provided a fitness update on Liverpool striker Divock Origi.
The Belgian made his first start for the 2021-22 club campaign against AC Milan at Anfield last night.
However, Origi was substituted 63 minutes into Liverpool’s opening Champions League group stage clash. The 26-year-old appeared to have picked up an injury.
But, Klopp has confirmed that Origi was simply suffering from cramp.
As quoted by Anfield Watch’s Twitter account, Klopp told the club’s official website the following: “He was not injured, just cramp, that’s normal.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
We are delighted to hear that Origi did not suffer an injury against AC Milan. We never want to see any Liverpool player sitting on the sidelines due to an injury.
Also, the Belgian is a handy forward. Origi has scored 35 goals and registered 15 assists in 158 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team.
The 26-year-old was very good against AC Milan. Origi registered an assist and a WhoScored player rating of 7.44 against the Serie A side.
The aforementioned figures highlight that the striker does add quality to the club’s attack. Therefore, hopefully we see Origi get a few more opportunities this season.
