Jürgen Klopp has stated that Virgil van Dijk’s ongoing injury recovery is coming along in a “very positive” way.

However, the Liverpool boss has stopped short of putting any time frame on the return of the 29-year-old defender.

Van Dijk has been recovering from knee ligament damage for the last three months after picking up an injury in the draw with Everton in October.

There has been little in the way of an official update from the club since the injury but speaking ahead of Thursday’s game with Burnley, Klopp said: “I don’t know what is possible and what is not possible; I don’t think I’m the right person to judge that 100 per cent.

“He looks really good. I spoke to him this morning – he is in a really good mood. So it’s all very promising.

“But I don’t know when he will be back.

“But for the time we are in and for how long he is out now, how long the rehabilitation is going on, he looks really, really promising.”

Liverpool have conceded eight goals in the 13 league games that the £75m centre back has been missing.
