In the summer of 2015, Liverpool signed James Milner from Manchester City.

Milner has also won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title with Liverpool.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has recently been talking about Milner. The German had plenty of good things to say about the midfielder.

As quoted by the club’s official website, Klopp told reporters the following when asked how important Milner is to Liverpool: “Massively important, very, very important.

“He played very good and I think we won the games because he was on the pitch, not despite – I’m very sure about that.

“But I don’t know how often I said it and I can say it a lot more times: Millie is incredibly important for this group, incredibly important.

“As a person, as a character but as a player as well. Not only in the dressing room, but as well in the dressing room.

“I think Millie was always around, playing or coming on or whatever when he was fit. There were some really little issues but enough of an issue to rule him out in the last month, but now he’s completely fit.

“Hopefully it stays like this and that makes him then an important player on and off the pitch. It’s good and I’m really happy to have him.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

At 35 years of age, it will be interesting to see what Milner does come the end of the season. Milner will ultimately be a free agent come the summer.

Milner is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.54 across the 2020-21 campaign, which highlights that he has not had the best of the seasons.

Despite that being the case, we would not be shocked to see the club offer Milner another contract at the end of the season.

Klopp’s comments highlight that he rates Milner quite highly.
