Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lauded Roberto Firmino for the impact he has on the team, even when he is not scoring the goals.

Firmino scored his second goal of the season on Sunday in Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leicester at Anfield, with Klopp saying that he is the complete footballer.

Klopp says that he is incredibly important to how Liverpool play and says that his game time in recent seasons shows how much he trusts him to deliver.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp opened up on Firmino’s importance to the team. “Scoring was always important for Bobby but Bobby is the complete footballer.

“A football team is like an orchestra, to play we need to have people for different instruments. Some of them are louder, some of them are not that loud, but they are all important for the rhythm.

“Bobby is incredibly important, he plays like 12 instruments in our orchestra, he is incredibly important for our rhythm. Thank God, we can play without him as well but it’s nice to have him on the pitch. And if you look at the numbers, obviously I like it a lot – having him on the pitch – because he played pretty often!”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Firmino has been a regular under Klopp since he arrived at the club. The forward has started 31 or more Premier League games in each of the last four seasons, proving what Klopp said about liking him on the pitch. Klopp has consistently picked him over the years and the numbers, for the most part, back up his inclusion in the side. In Firmino’s first four league seasons under Klopp, he scored 10 or more goals and registered seven assists, showing that he can be a threat at scoring and creating goals.

His form in front of goal has taken a hit in the past 18 months, however, as he has only scored 12 Premier League and Champions League goals in his last 51 starts. Although, his creativity never faded as he created eight goals in the league last term and already has two this season – as many as he has goals. So, whilst he may not be scoring as many goals as he did previously he is still providing assists and bringing value to the team and that could be why Klopp has kept the faith.
