Jurgen Klopp was sent off in a crazy match between Liverpool and Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool went into the game desperately needing a victory to keep their Premier League title aspirations alive.

And they got the result they needed as the Reds won 1-0 in an entertaining game at Anfield.

The game well and truly burst into life in the second half after a goalless opening 45 minutes.

Man City thought they had scored the opener through Phil Foden 10 minutes after the restart.

But referee Anthony Taylor decided to rule out the goal after looking at the pitchside monitor, adjudging Erling Haaland to have felled Fabinho in the build-up.

Liverpool then took the lead with 15 minutes remaining after a moment of magic from Mohamed Salah.

Alisson Becker launched a kick forward in the direction of Salah. The Egyptian spun Joao Cancelo and finished coolly when one vs one with Ederson.

There were no further goals as Liverpool held on to a vital three points.

Klopp was given his marching orders after losing it with the officials late in the game.

Salah appeared to be dragged down by Bernardo Silva but Taylor did not blow for a foul. The German lost his head as he made his frustration clear to see.

A crucial victory for Liverpool

The Reds have struggled start to the campaign and were in the bottom half of the Premier League table going into Sunday's game.

But they have now vaulted up to eighth after picking up a vital three points against their fierce rivals.

Liverpool are now 14 points behind early pace-setters, Arsenal.

City are four points further adrift in second.

Liverpool will be hoping their win against City can give them the momentum they need to get back into the Premier League title race.
