Jurgen Klopp fires strong message to doubting supporters as tough run continues | OneFootball

Jurgen Klopp has urged those supporters that might be having doubts around the team and him as a manager at the moment to rally around the side amid the club’s current league issues at home.

Losing to Chelsea on Thursday night secured a very unwanted record of 5 home league losses in a row at Anfield and the Reds need to change that against Fulham tomorrow afternoon.

Some supporters, a real minority it must be said, have voiced their doubts given the recent run, of course, and Klopp used his press conference on Friday to urge them to keep believing in the team – as they would have last season during the run to the title.

He said:

“It’s easy to believe when it’s going well but in this moment – how can I say it? I can’t really tell the [supporters] what they should think. At the time when I said it [turn from doubters into believers], it was my decision. It was never a message that meant everybody had to follow it or not.

“If you want to doubt us and the team, if you want to doubt me in this moment, then yes – I think that is possible because of the results we have had.

“My understanding is that if you are really with us, then you judge our situation and see that it has been a really difficult year, where unity could be shown in an even more special kind of way.

“I’m pretty sure if our stadium could be full in this moment, the majority of people would like the game [we’re playing] even if we are losing. For the next game, they [the supporters] would be there again full of belief, positivity, and optimism and all these kind of things – because they know these boys can change this situation and it can change – dramatically.

“A reason for our situation is the injuries we have  – definitely. Last night, we had a really good team on the pitch but we faced another really good team so you can lose these kind of games – always, that’s always clear. In the decisive moments, you have to be better than them [to win these kind of games] and we were not last night. This doesn’t say anything about our players in general, it says a lot about the situation we are in at the moment.

“If someone wants to doubt us, I can’t change that obviously. If somebody wants us to do well – and especially in the future, then that is welcome.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It’s an undoubtedly testing time at the moment but there is no point peeling strips off one another when there is work to be done.

The Reds and Klopp have restored the club as domestic and European champions in recent seasons and though the fear factor has gone a bit this year, there has to be belief that things will turn around once more.

Fulham will be tough tomorrow, but each game coming up represents a chance to get back on track and as supporters we’ll hope to see things turn around then.
