Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has contacted the father of Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, according to French outlet Le10 Sport.
Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe recently, which does suggest that there could be some interest in the forward.
Le10 Sport are now reporting that Klopp has even contacted Mbappe’s father to discuss the future of the striker.
The report further adds that Liverpool are in the market for a big name in case Sadio Mane departs the club.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
If this report were to be true, this is not the worst tactic by Klopp. There is one example that sticks in my head in regards to the influence a father can have on his son.
Steven Gerrard handed in a transfer request back in 2005 to make the move to Chelsea. That action by Gerrard does suggest that he very nearly did make the move to Stamford Bridge.
However, after a conversation with his father, Liverpool’s No.8 had a change of heart. This just shows that a father can have quite a big influence on his son.
If Klopp were able to convince Mbappe’s father that Liverpool would be the right club for his son, then you just never know what could happen in the future.
