Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that forward Mo Salah will be available for selection against Atalanta in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Salah was forced to sit out Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday after testing positive for Covid-19 whilst on international duty with Eygpt.

However, he is now able to play against Atalanta having returned a negative test and started training with his teammates again.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

This could be a huge boost for Liverpool given Salah’s incredible form this season. He has bagged eight times in eight Premier League games, along with two goals in two Champions League start. This means that he now has the chance to continue that form this week against Atalanta and add to his superb goal tally by bagging against the Italian side.

Hopefully, he can come in on the right – if picked to start – and help Liverpool to the three points to further secure their position at the top of their Champions League group. His return so far this season does suggest that he could score a goal or two if given the chances during the match.

Salah’s return could also be key from a squad rotation perspective. The winger coming in could allow Jurgen Klopp to rest Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota or Sadio Mane. With the gruelling schedule and the sheer number of minutes Mane and Firmino have played this season, it could make sense to give one of them rest and bring Salah back in to play after he sat out at the weekend. Klopp could even rest both of them by starting either Takumi Minamino or Xherdan Shaqiri to allow them some time off ahead of the next Premier League game at the weekend.
