Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed Alisson as a world-class goalkeeper ahead of the Brazil international’s 100th appearance for the club.

Alisson, assuming he starts, will make his 100th Liverpool appearance against Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend, just over two years on from his move to the club from AS Roma.

Klopp says that he cannot remember a game where Alisson did not have a good game between the sticks and that he is very happy with his performances.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Klopp heaped praise on the shot-stopper. “After 100 games for Liverpool, I don’t have to speak about the importance of Ali – it could’ve been already more [appearances].

“I would say 99 good ones so far. I can’t remember a game when he was not spot on, so that’s good.

“And of course it’s important. When you have a world-class goalkeeper, you want to have him in your goal. The more often you can do that, the better it is for us and so I am very happy.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Klopp believes that Alisson is a world-class goalkeeper and his record for Liverpool appears to back that up. In 74 Premier League appearances, Alisson has kept an impressive 36 clean sheets and made 147 saves – with Liverpool winning 59 of those games.

He was also named in the UEFA Fans’ Team of the Year for 2019, suggesting that he is currently the best goalkeeper in world football. Although, he was not named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2019/20 season in the Premier League, which could have been because he missed nine games through injury at the start of the campaign. Alisson did, however, win the Golden Glove in the 2018/19 campaign, keeping the most clean sheets in the Premier League for Liverpool.

So, his statistics and personal honours do suggest that he is a world-class goalkeeper who does not make many mistakes – just as Klopp says. A clean sheet against Brighton could be a fitting way for him to celebrate his 100th appearance between the sticks for the Reds.
