Sometimes, when you become famous or get a new job, your old tweets come back to haunt you.
That’s exactly what happened to Barcelona new boy Junior Firpo shortly after he put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal to join the Blaugrana.
Fans went online and stalked the 22-year-old and found that Firpo once said that he could “probably break both of Messi’s legs with one kick,” and also called Messi a “son of a bitch.”
Additional tweets showed that the former Real Betis man said “I do not give a crap that sh**** rat Messi got injured. I hope he dies and stops scoring goals hahaha.”
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo on Thursday, Firpo apologised for his ancient tweets.
“It turns out that my best friend at the time was from Barça and therefore he was also a Messi fan because Leo is the best without discussion. I had to say ugly things about Messi on Twitter,” Firpo said.
“That’s it, kids stuff. Also from that time there has been a tweet of mine that said some silly stuff about Julia, who was then my girlfriend and now is my wife and mother of my daughter.
“These were things I did when I was 15 years old, when nobody knows you and when you cannot think that this will have an impact years later, because when you put it online, you can’t imagine you will become a professional.
“But I also say that if those tweets offended someone and I have to apologise, then I do it humbly without problems.”
After defeating Napoli 2-1 in Miami on Wednesday, they will face the Italians again on Saturday at Michigan Stadium.
