What do you know about Monterrey?“First and foremost, they’re a team full of energy. I expect them to be ready to fight. We’ve seen statistics showing how many tackles they make in a game, so it’s going to be a hard-fought match.”
The stadium will probably be fuller than before, with lots of Mexican fans. Are you looking forward to the atmosphere, even if the opposition fans are in the majority?“It helps me, at least. To be honest, I’d rather play against them and their fans than in front of an empty stadium. I hope it gives us energy too.”
Your style of play demands intensity. How difficult is that under these conditions?“Hopefully it will be easier in an air-conditioned stadium. It’s a bit tough for me in particular, as I come from the north, playing in 40 degrees in the sun. But we’ve managed it so far, and we may have to do it again if we progress.”
Can you reproduce the performances you showed at the end of the Bundesliga season?“Yes, we’re still in it. I wouldn’t say we’ve had a slow start, but we haven’t played our best football yet. Often, the teams that start a little slowly and then improve towards the end win tournaments. So I hope we can perform better than we have so far. But the most important thing is to progress. When there’s a tournament, you want to win it.”
