Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract with the national side, the DFB have announced.

Following the departure of Hansi Flick, he took over on a temporary basis, with the 36-year-old’s contract set to expire following this summer’s European Championship.

He was closely linked with a move to former club Bayern Munich as well as Liverpool and others but Nagelsmann has now ended the rumours regarding his future by penning a new deal taking him up to the end of the World Cup in 2026.

“This is a decision made with the heart. It is a great honour to coach the national team and work with the best players in the country,” he stated.

“With successful, passionate performance we have the chance to carry an entire country with us. The enthusiasm of the fans has touched me a lot. We now want to play a successful Euros at home and after that, myself and my team are very much looking forward to the challenge of the World Cup.”

The decision to keep Nagelsmann in charge was unanimously voted upon in favour at a Supervisory Board and Shareholders’ Meeting of the German football association on Friday.
