Bayern Munich lost their third pre-season fixture against Börussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday leaving manager Julian Nagelsmann headed back to the drawing board before the 2021/22 season begins.
Speaking to club media after the match, the new manager listed some positives from the team’s performance before criticising the areas that need improvement.
“We defended much better in the first half than in the last few friendlies. We wanted to apply pressure early today and won the ball a lot,” said Nagelsmann.
“Gladbach didn’t have many dangerous situations in the first half. But we didn’t get in front of goal enough. We were not as proactive in the attacking third, but still had two or three good chances.”
Nagelsmann then went on to explain he remains hopeful that the club can get back in the win coloumn before the new season kicks off.
“Of course, we have to start winning when competitive matches start,” he said.
“We won’t be able to introduce so many new things at the beginning. We’ll have to, and want to, fall back on what the boys are familiar with and then gradually develop through playing in the league day-to-day.”
Bayern Munich play their final pre-season friendly against Napoli on 31 July.
