Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann has explained why youngster Jamal Musiala was an unused substitute in Saturday’s hammering of VfL Bochum.
The 18-year-old attacker started in the 3-0 Champions League win over Barcelona at the Nou Camp in midweek.
However he was left to watch on from the bench at the Allianz Arena as the Bavarians recorded a 7-0 victory upon their return to Bundesliga duties.
Nagelsmann insists the decision to bring Serge Gnabry back in on the right side was made with Musiala’s best interests at heart.
“Jamal is a young player that you have to control well,” the Bayern boss said (via kicker).
Nagelsmann added that the Bavarians were abiding by sports science.
“The values of the bio-markers that we collect are very high for him. That means a lot of stress on his legs, and you just mustn’t overload him.”
Musiala will be hoping the data at the club’s disposal will allow him to feature against Greuther Fürth on Friday.
