Borussia Dortmund firestarter Erling Haaland scored another brace in his first start from the beginning for the Westphalians in a 5-0 against Union Berlin on Saturday.

By doing so, the 19-year-old set a new Bundesliga record, scoring seven goals in his first three games. Most impressively, the Norwegian only needed a total of eight shots to pull off this historic feat.

The goals in the 18th and 76th minute came at the courtesy of BVB midfielder Julian Brandt. The 23-year-old first found Haaland with a cross from the right flank and set up the second with a no-look backheel in the box.

After the game, the midfielder talked to Sky about the blind understanding between the two protagonists. “One of his many talents is his ability to integrate himself very quickly,” Brandt said, adding: “In the end, you could say that he just needs to poach the goals but he has good chemistry with his teammates and is linking up very well. He is rewarding himself for his efforts and I hope that he can keep that momentum.”

Asked, how the German and Norwegian communicate on the field, Brand revealed: “He understands a bit of German but it’s easier in English.”

Haaland, meanwhile, pointed out that non-verbal communication is key: “Most importantly, we understand each other on the pitch. As you see, we did that today and that’s the most important [thing],” adding that his teammates are making it easy for him: “It’s always special [to join a new team] at the start but they are all nice guys and I enjoy it so far.”

The striker was subbed off after 76 minutes. For Dortmund, he is yet to complete a game over 90 minutes as he is still building his fitness since recovering from a knee injury in December.

“It was very hard but it was nice to play from the start. I’ll get more fit when I play more games. I’m not 100% yet,” Haaland said, which may sound like a threat to other Bundesliga teams. Though he didn’t want to get ahead of himself when asked about a championship-winning run: “We need to take it from game to game. We like to win so we just have to continue.”
