The 22 year-old cost the Sky Blues an initial £14 million, completing a move to the Premier League in July after agreeing a transfer to England in January.

The Argentine forward has already scored seven goals for the Sky Blues, having featured on 20 occasions for Pep Guardiola across the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Alvarez is the latest Argentine to play for City and follows in the footsteps of the Blues’ all-time top goalscorer Sergio Aguero.

Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 appearances across ten years for Manchester City, with the 34 year-old one of three City players to have a statue commissioned outside the Etihad Stadium.

The club legend was one of four former City players named in an all-time combined Argentina and Premier League XI compiled by Alvarez.

Alvarez also included defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis and forward Carlos Tevez.

Zabaleta made over 300 appearances for the Sky Blues, winning six trophies including two Premier League titles between 2008 and 2017.

Demichelis and Tevez also won the Premier League title at the Etihad Stadium, with the latter famously joining from Manchester United in 2009.

Julian Alvarez’s all-time Argentina x PL XI: Martinez; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Heinze; Lanzini, Lo Celso, Lamela; Di Maria, Higuain, Aguero, Tevez.
