Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui has insisted his side are “not safe” ahead of their trip to fellow strugglers Leicester City this Saturday.
Despite back-to-back home wins against Brentford and Chelsea which have pushed Wolves seven points clear of the relegation zone and on the brink of Premier League survival, the former Sevilla coach says there is still “seven finals left” and his side must “be ready.”
When pushed further on the relegation battle, Lopetegui added: “There is no space to relax. You only achieve your aim when you achieve and not before, that is clear to me.”
On the threat of Leicester, it is evident that the Spaniard will not be taking them lightly, pointing out that his side will “have to go there with our strengths and our experience, always knowing that we have to respect them a lot. Leicester have a lot of very top players, they are fantastic players.”
His own side’s upturn in form has come alongside excellent performances from several players, namely Matheus Nunes and Diego Costa, the latter scoring his first goal for the club in the 2-0 win against Brentford last weekend. Lopetegui clearly appreciates the ex-Chelsea’s man impact and influence, claiming “he has been working very hard on the pitch, the bench and sometimes out of the squad. He is always ready.”
As for club captain Ruben Neves, his manager has said “he is ready to play” after serving a two-game suspension for accumulating 10 yellow cards in the league this season.
The return of their midfield talisman bodes extremely well for a Wolves side brimming with confidence and a win at the King Power Stadium would near-confirm their Premier League status while plunging Leicester even further into the relegation mire.
