West Ham were beaten 4-1 by City at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon.

Lopetegui brought the Frenchman into the Hammers' starting line-up at the Etihad, but he had to be replaced after 53 minutes, having picked up a knock.

The centre-back on loan from Nice previously suffered an adductor injury in December.

“We don’t know exactly [the nature of his injury],” Lopetegui revealed. “We have to assess him tomorrow, but I am not very optimistic with him.

“We suffered an injury yesterday [with Emerson too in the last training session, that’s why he was not here.”

Lopetegui admitted the match was very different from last Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing at home to Liverpool, insisting the defeat to City was a much closer game.

He said: “It’s not easy today to explain the match for me. I think we deserved more.

“There are a lot of little details that, all of them, can explain why the score is like this. But we did very good things and positive things. But we didn’t take advantage of two clear situations. We have to do better with finishing.

“If you don’t take advantage when you are better than the opponent, when the team is [Manchester] City away, in the end you know that normally you are going to lose, because they have very, very high-quality players.”

Lopetegui was asked whether he is concerned about his side having conceded nine goals in just two games.

“We are not thinking about the number [condeded] from previous match,” he asserted. “I am thinking about the match of today.

“They have been very different matches, in my opinion. It is a frustrating day.”
