Jürgen Klopp expects Andy Robertson to be sidelined “for a while” with a shoulder injury.

The Liverpool full-back suffered the problem during Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to Spain in the international break.

Robertson is now facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines, starting with Saturday’s Merseyside derby showdown against Everton.

“I think the decision will go towards surgery,” admitted Klopp.

“There was a little chance we could try without but it looks like surgery will be the best thing in the long-term especially.

“He will be out for a while.”

Klopp heads into a 243rd derby showdown boasting an impressive record of just one defeat in his previous 17 meetings with Liverpool’s local rivals.

“I never thought about it because it is rather uncomfortable,” added Klopp.

“If you told me about my good record because I couldn’t be less interested, it is really not important.

“I can’t remember one moment when I thought ‘This weekend is the derby’ and enjoyed that thought.

“There is a lot of intensity before a ball is kicked and you really have to channel that in the right areas.

“I understand the derby but I cannot prepare it like a one-off game.”

Liverpool will go in search of their first Premier League win in three games against an Everton side currently 16th in the table.
