Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain will be out for at least the rest of 2019, Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has revealed.

The former Arsenal man exited in the second half of his side’s extra-time win over Flamengo in the Club World Cup final with an ankle problem.

Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Klopp admitted that he is unsure as yet just how serious the issue could be.

“With Oxlade, you have three ligaments in the ankle and one of them is damaged,” the German told the assembled media.

“I did the injury myself as a player but it was years ago.

“It can take a while [to recover] or it can go quickly.

“There’s no chance for him to play again this year though, that is clear.

“We just have to see how it settles.”

It is the fifth different injury the 26-year-old has suffered from since making the move to Anfield.
