Judas Moseamedi ignites social media again: What's the story?
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Judas Moseamedi has found himself at the center of social media attention in recent days, sparking conversations among football enthusiasts.
The Tzaneen-born forward enjoyed his most productive spell in the DStv Premiership during the 2019/20 campaign, netting seven times across all competitions. That season, he developed a notable reputation for troubling his former club, scoring multiple crucial goals against Amakhosi. His performances proved particularly decisive, ultimately contributing significantly to denying Chiefs the league title that year.
Currently, supporters of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have been evoking Moseamedi's name, suggesting he could once again play the role of disruptor to Chiefs' ambitions. Much like in the 2019/20 season, the Glamour Boys have begun the current term in impressive form, leading some to tip them as genuine championship contenders.
However, a repeat of Moseamedi's heroics appears improbable. Since departing Maritzburg United in 2021, the striker has taken an itinerant path: a season at Stellenbosch FC was followed by a move to Marumo Gallants in 2023. A short-lived stint with Tunisian side EGS Gafsa preceded a return to Durban City, and his most recent engagement was with Venda FC before becoming a free agent in July.
Now 31, Moseamedi has been absent from the PSL for more than two seasons. Yet, for Chiefs supporters, the memory of his double at Mbombela in 2019 remains fresh—a Nedbank Cup performance that saw the Limpopo-born striker knock his former side out of the tournament and claim the Man of the Match award, forever etching his name in the minds of the Amakhosi faithful.
