MIAMI, Florida – Weeks keep passing and the emotions keep rising in the professional women’s leagues around Concacaf.
Week 10 of Liga MX Femenil proved how the games are just getting harder as the days go by, and with the playoffs just around the corner, everyone wants to play the next round.
FC Juarez returned to the victory column after dropping points the last few weeks, as they downed Atletico de San Luis 3-2 on Friday evening. It wasn’t an easy task for Las Bravas, as San Luis fought the entire 90 minutes. The first goal for FC Juarez came in the 4’ after Myra Delgadillo drove the ball to the area, assisting Jasmine Cazares to send it to the back of the net.
The second goal came just five minutes later, in the 9’, with a score by Miah Zuazua. But as mentioned before, San Luis didn’t get their heads down, getting one back in the 20’ with the services of Joana Robles via penalty kick. They kept pushing, managing to tie the game 2-2 in the 41’ after Daniela Carrandi took advantage of a defensive mistake. Las Bravas won in the last minutes of the match though, in the 89’, with a header from Blanca Solis, leaving them in Liguilla position.
Toluca FC also found themselves as winners for the second time in this Clausura 2023, defeating Santos Laguna 2-0 on Monday afternoon. The victory came thanks to Brenda Woch in the 46’, who fired into goal after the home defense wasn’t able to clear the danger. The second and final goal came in the 76’ from the always ready Mariel Roman via penalty kick. With these three points, Las Diablas are still in the fight to leave the bottom of the table.
The first round of the Torneo de Apertura 2023 in Costa Rica has come to an end. Now, the teams will face each other again, ready to put what they learned from the first time encounters to use.
Saprissa FF close this first window as the leader of the tournament, reinforcing their position after doubling up Municipal Pococi 4-2 on Friday evening. Las Moradas started dominating the match with two early goals in the 18’ and 28’ from Gloriana Villalobos and Yessenia Flores. However, Municipal Pococi didn't give up and with the services of Claudia Nunez, who scored goals in the 42’ and the 48’, they evened things up at 2-2.
Not used to this scenario, Saprissa switched things up, subbing in Veronica Matarrita in the second half, and it worked. Matarrita came to the rescue of her team, scoring two more goals in the last minutes of the game, in the 83’ and the 87’, securing her team’s win. With this result, Saprissa sits at the top of the table, ready for the second round of the tournament.
C.S Herediano also closed the first round of the tournament on a high by topping Dimas Escazu 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Luciana Gonzalez struck first for her team in the 24’. She was followed by teammate Nicole Segura, who secured the win in the 51’. Dimas Escazu didn’t let up, and in the 53’ found a goal through the boots of Camila Garcia. Sitting in fourth and fifth place, respectively, the teams are ready for the second round.
