Aston Villa scout Juanfran has been quoted in the Spanish press speaking incredibly highly about Celta Vigo forward Maxi Gómez, sparking rumours that the striker could be moving to Villa Park or elsewhere in the Premier League.

Juanfran said of Gómez:

“He has the profile of a Premier League player. He’s fit, he is strong in the air, and offers a number of different variables.”

Juanfran then goes on to detail his experience as an Aston Villa scout, saying he visits a minimum of three live games in Spain or Portugal each weekend.

He also says that he had to learn and understand Aston Villa as a club, expressing that learning their style of play, history and more were important as you cannot advise players to a club you do not know in depth.

He continued to speak highly of Gómez, who scored thirteen goals and assisted five this season for Vigo – and has attracted interest from West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur.

“He is a reference number nine. Well placed, attentive to a second ball, and above all, he does what is asked of a striker and scores. That’s why he attracts interest from the Premier League.”

Gómez has a relatively strong return of 30 goals in 70 games for Celta Vigo, and at just 22-years-old, fits the mould of the new-look Aston Villa. He also wouldn’t be the only Spanish speaking player at the club, with Jota Peteleiro signing yesterday.

Whilst Aston Villa face some tough competition, it could be a possibility that former Celta player Juanfran could convince Gómez to give Dean Smith’s philosophy a try.

Director of Gómez’ former club Defensor Sporting in Uruguay has also reportedly spoken to Uruguayan radio that Gómez has told him that there has been contact from Valencia and Aston Villa.
