With his Manchester United contract coming to an end, it seems Juan Mata will be on the move again in the close season.
And according to reports in Spain, it looks like the 30-year-old could be heading to Barcelona on a free transfer.
Goal reported back in January that Barça were monitoring Mata’s situation at Old Trafford and have already informed the player of their interest.
And now Cadena SER claim that representatives from the LaLiga giants met with Mata’s father – who runs a restaurant in Manchester – when they were in the city for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final clash.
As things stand, the former Valencia playmaker will be a free agent as of 30 June.
However, speaking on Thursday, Mata’s father – Juan Mata Senior – hinted that United have offered a contract extension and the player is currently weighing up his options.
“Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy,” he told Cadena SER.
“But there are proposals from Champions League teams.
“Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.”
However, there are two clubs that it seems the former Chelsea man would not consider leaving United for.
“City? It would not be the ideal option,” added Juan Mata Senior.
“There are two options that do not [appeal]: Liverpool and City.
“We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here.”
