Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly underway in their search for a replacement for Hugo Lloris and have initiated contact with Napoli’s Alex Meret.
Lloris is 36 and is out of contract next year. Even if he wasn’t, and had a longer contract here than the one that expires at the end of next season, Spurs would be wise to think of replacing him. Errors are creeping into his game.
The former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper is a legend here but he is in the twilight years of his playing career. He has already hung up his boots from international football.

According to Rai journalist Ciro Venerato, while speaking on radio show 1 Football Club via TuttoNapoli, Spurs have already initiated contact to sign Alex Meret. He said:
“Meret’s future? There is no news. Meeting with the Pastorello agent at the end of the season, so we will understand if there will be a need to renew or go elsewhere. Tottenham are interested in the boy, a club that has also contacted the boy’s entourage in this market.
“Alex’s possible successor vicar. The Caprile option, on the other hand, will depend on Gollini’s future redemption or otherwise and will cover the deputy second goalkeeper of Meret or Vicario.”
Neat. This is a top goalkeeper we are talking about. Of course, he wasn’t regular until David Ospina departed the club for Al-Nassr.
However, he is between the sticks for a team that are currently first in Serie A and could finally end their three-decade-long wait for the Scudetto. He is also 25 years old and has all the time in the world to become one of the world’s best shot-stoppers.
More proven options, especially from within the Premier League, wouldn’t have hurt. But Meret has shown his mettle for Napoli and was in the Italy national squad that won the 2020 UEFA European Championship.
He is at the point of his career where Spurs could be the perfect step for him, even if Napoli are doing well. The wages, competition, and fame that the big six PL clubs can offer dwarfs most teams in world football.
He will have just one year left on his deal this summer and hopefully, doesn’t pen fresh terms so we can sign him for as cheap as possible.
