According to a recent revelation made by journalist Javi Miguel, it has come to light that Barcelona’s goalkeeping situation may be far more complicated than it appears on the surface.
With Hansi Flick now in charge, the quiet arrival of Tony Tapalovic as a part of the coaching staff has stirred up speculation, especially with the club showing interest in a new goalkeeper like Joan Garcia.
Tapalovic, who served as Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping coach for over a decade, came to Barcelona at Flick’s specific request.
This move raised questions since Barça already had a trusted goalkeeping coach in Jose Ramon de la Fuente, known for his close relationship with Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
In fact, their bond goes beyond the training ground and mirrors the strong friendship once shared by Tapalovic and Manuel Neuer at Bayern.
What makes this situation even more intriguing is the history between ter Stegen and Neuer. The two have long competed for the German national team’s No.1 spot, a rivalry often marked by tension.

During their battle for the top spot in Germany, Tapalovic was known to be firmly in Neuer’s corner.
Now, with Tapalovic joining Barça’s staff, some suspect history may be repeating itself, this time with ter Stegen potentially on the receiving end.
It is also worth noting that ter Stegen is just returning from a long injury layoff, having recovered from a serious issue with his right knee.
Though he has a contract until 2028, his future has become a point of discussion, especially now that the club is planning long-term with a different goalkeeper in mind.
The quiet changes behind the scenes, combined with whispers about Garcia and Tapalovic’s influence, point to a developing drama that may take unexpected turns.
A story that once seemed like Barcelona’s genuine attempt to improve could be more than what meets the eye.
