Burnley striker Wout Weghorst will join Premier League side Man Utd in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils are desperate to bring in a striker in the January transfer window to boost that area of their squad after losing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo left by mutual consent after he criticised the club, manager, senior executives, former players and more in his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

That has left Man Utd short of forward options with Marcus Rashford and injury-prone Anthony Martial their only recognisable strikers.

Rashford has been doing well with the England international scoring a goal in each of his last five matches in all competitions – but Man Utd are just an injury or two away from real problems in attack.

And that has seen the club be active in the winter market with numerous strikers linked to Old Trafford and now Burnley’s Weghorst seems to be on his way.

The Netherlands international is currently on loan at Besiktas from the Championship side with Weghorst having no intention of playing in the English second tier.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano brought an update on the situation on Monday, he wrote on Twitter: “Manchester United are working to find a solution with Besiktas and Burnley to get Wout Weghorst deal done — both player and club side are confident.

“Talks will continue as player has been very clear: he doesn’t want to miss this big chance, Erik ten Hag wants him.”

During his time in Turkey, Weghorst has contributed eight goals and four assists in 16 matches, while he bagged two goals in four substitute appearances for the Netherlands at the World Cup at the end of last year.

And now Man Utd have seen something they like in the 30-year-old with Dutch publication AD (via Sport Witness) revealing the ‘disbelief’ in the Netherlands that a deal is happening.

The newspaper confirms that Weghorst is ‘on his way’ to the Premier League to join Man Utd and that striker is now ‘laughing at his critics’.

And AD columnist Willem van Hanegem was shocked at the deal with the journalist questioning why Man Utd bother having a youth academy.
