Journalist provides update on Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager

Speaking on The View from the Lane Podcast, reputed journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic has claimed that Tottenham will not appoint a new manager until after the season ends.

Tottenham have been without a full-time manager ever since Jose Mourinho was sacked by Daniel Levy last month. Former midfielder Ryan Mason has been given the reins on an interim basis up until the end of the season.

Previously, it has been claimed that Tottenham are keen on announcing a new manager before the end of the 2020/21 season. However, Pitt-Brooke has ruled out any such possibility, stating that the fans will have to wait until after the season to see a new boss at the helm.

“Spurs are taking their time over the process. There’s not going to be an announcement any time soon. I certainly am not expecting anything before the Leicester game, which is the last game of the season. “Steve Hitchen is drawing up a three, four, maximum of five man shortlist and then they will move on to interviews. I would expect the announcement in late May or early June. The word coming from the club is that they want to get it right and make sure they don’t jump into it.”

Under Mason so far, Tottenham have won and lost two games each, which includes a Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City last month.

It is important that the club takes its time before making a decision on the next manager. At the same time, the hierarchy should ensure that they end up wasting too much time before someone is appointed, which could affect the transfer window and pre-season before the 2021/22 term.
