Diogo Dalot does not consider his chapter at AC Milan to be definitively closed and a future reunion could be explored, a journalist has claimed.

Dalot joined the Rossoneri on a season-long dry loan as the then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted the Portuguese full-back to go out and get more consistent playing time in order to help him develop. He returned to Old Trafford at the end of the season, where he has since established himself as a starter, but he has occasionally being linked with a return.

MilanNews spoke to Claudia Garcia, a Portuguese journalist who is well linked given she was the first to report that Rafael Leao would be joining Milan from Lille. She was asked about the idea of Dalot still being an ‘open discussion’ for Milan.

“Diogo did well at Milan. He didn’t play much as a starter, but when he did play he grew a lot. He is attached to Milan, to Pioli and to his friend Leao. For him, Milan are always an open discussion, but now he is doing very well at United,” she said.

“He is not a regular for his country, but could become one, there has been a lot of criticism of Cancelo’s defence. Right now Dalot is one of the best full-backs in the world and is in better shape than Cancelo.

“Interested teams, I don’t know if Milan would pounce on the player. Dalot could have stayed at Milan if they had made a suitable offer to United, even if the Red Devils didn’t want to let him leave.”

Dalot has made 13 appearances in the Premier League for United so far this season, taking ownership of the starting right-back spot from Aaron Wan Bissaka for the most part. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
