Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres is looking increasingly unlikely to make a move to Everton before the closure of the window.

According to journalist Christopher Beesley, a move for Gyokeres to Goodison Park is “not on the cards” as things stand.

As we exclusively revealed last week, the Toffees were interested in signing Gyokeres prior to the transfer deadline, with new manager Sean Dyche an admirer of the 24-year-old.

There has been no shortage of interest in the Swede after another excellent season for Coventry, with other Premier League clubs including Brentford, Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers as per our exclusive last month, while Coventry Live claimed Burnley were also keen.

Journalist Alan Nixon claims that the club have already turned down a number of bids for Gyokeres and that they will only consider sanctioning his departure if they receive a £25 million offer, with that valuation proving to be a stumbling block for his suitors.

But now with the clock ticking down to tonight’s 11pm deadline, it seems as though Gyokeres will be staying at the Coventry Building Society Arena in what would be a huge boost for the Sky Blues.

Gyokeres is the joint-second top scorer in the Championship this campaign with 12 goals to his name so far, while he has also registered four assists for Mark Robins’ side, who currently sit 13th in the table, four points from the play-off places.

The verdict

This is a huge boost for Coventry.

Gyokeres has been the subject of much transfer speculation this month and given his importance to the Sky Blues, they will have been desperately hoping to hold on to him beyond the closure of the window.

It seems as though Gyokeres is destined for a Premier League move at some point, but Coventry’s high valuation seems to have been a deterrent, while Everton’s well-documented financial restrictions may have prevented them from being able to meet the asking price.

There is still time for things to change until the deadline, but for now at least, it seems as though the Sky Blues will be retaining their star man.
