Liverpool Eyeing Rodrygo as Summer Transfer Plans Take Shape

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, with reports suggesting a 70 percent chance the Brazilian will join the Premier League champions this summer.

Recent updates from Sacha Tavolieri indicate Liverpool have expressed formal interest in the 24-year-old, though no official bid has been submitted yet. The rumours arrive at a time when uncertainty surrounds the future of Luis Diaz, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona reportedly holding direct talks with the Colombian’s representatives.

Liverpool and Rodrygo: Talks Already Underway

Spanish journalist Eduardo Burgos shared insights with The Redmen TV’s Dan Clubbe, confirming Liverpool’s interest in Rodrygo is indeed genuine.

“It’s genuine. Liverpool already held talks with his camp. They sent an emissary to Madrid to talk to his family, and Rodrygo is happy with the interest,” Burgos revealed.

“He’s open to a move. He always liked the Premier League. Two summers ago, even [Manchester] City tried to sign him. Guardiola called him a few times. He appreciated the gesture but in the end his preference was to stay in Madrid.

“His preference has now changed and now he’s hoping to leave…I think he will leave because he wants to be the star of the team, and [at Real Madrid] it will be very, very difficult, almost impossible. I think it’s not 50-50, it’s maybe 70-30. He’s open to a move and I think Liverpool may make a move.”

Why Liverpool Are Considering Rodrygo

Rodrygo’s name has circulated in transfer talks before, but the current situation feels different. The uncertainty over Diaz’s future adds weight to Liverpool’s reported pursuit, particularly as Arne Slot prepares his squad for another title defence after a remarkable first season in charge.

Slot currently has four senior forwards at his disposal. Should Diaz depart without a replacement lined up, the attacking depth could become a concern. Rodrygo offers flexibility across the front line, primarily excelling on the right wing but equally capable in other forward roles.

At 24, he blends youth with significant top-level experience, having already lifted two Champions League trophies and three LaLiga titles with Real Madrid. His versatility and pedigree make him an appealing target for a Liverpool side keen to stay ahead of their rivals.

Real Madrid’s Stance and Liverpool’s Strategy

Signing Rodrygo will not be straightforward. With three years remaining on his contract, Real Madrid hold the cards and are under no immediate pressure to sell. Any deal is likely to require a substantial fee, reflecting Rodrygo’s achievements and the high regard in which he is held, with Carlo Ancelotti previously describing him as a “special striker.”

While Liverpool’s main transfer priority appears to be an out-and-out centre-forward, such as Alexander Isak or Hugo Ekitike, Rodrygo could be next on the list if those options prove unattainable. His arrival would not only bolster the squad but send a statement of intent from the Anfield hierarchy.

Supporters will watch developments closely in the weeks ahead, as Liverpool weigh their options and assess whether to make a formal approach for Rodrygo. With the player reportedly eager to step into a starring role, a move to Merseyside may offer the perfect stage.
