Patrick Berger – not that one – of German outlet SPORT1 has revealed that Liverpool still have a ‘strong interest’ in midfielder Florian Neuhaus with the player’s transfer fee now described as ‘freely negotiable.’
It wasn’t so long ago that it appeared as though the player was going to join Bayern Munich next summer after one more year at Borussia Monchengladbach but, according to Berger, Liverpool remain keen on the player as they look for a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.
Wijnaldum, of course, has seen his move to PSG go through this week and there is now a spot in the midfield ranks, with Berger suggesting Neuhaus could be the man the Reds turn to:
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
There are really conflicting reports doing the rounds over Liverpool looking to get a new midfielder in this summer and it’s hard to see exactly where things are going to head in the coming weeks.
Some suggest Liverpool aren’t that keen on replacing Wijnaldum whilst others are reporting, as Berger has here, that the Reds have a real interest in doing business for a midfielder.
It remains to be seen what happens, then, but you can bet the speculation is going to rumble on.
