Liverpool Transfers: Who Will Leave This Summer?

As the transfer window approaches, speculation over Liverpool’s squad movements intensifies. David Lynch, in his latest podcast, delves into the potential exits at Anfield. With contributions from various insiders, Lynch provides a comprehensive update on the state of play for Liverpool in the transfer market.

Uncertain Future of Darwin Núñez

Darwin Núñez has been at the center of many rumors, with consistent links to Barcelona. Lynch explains, “Speculation over his future doesn’t seem to end at the moment, does it?” Despite Núñez’s challenging season, characterised by a lack of goals and a struggle to secure a spot in the starting eleven, there are reasons to believe he might stay. Lynch suggests, “If you’re Michael Edwards or you’re Richard Hughes…you look at Darwin Núñez as a player who it wouldn’t take much really to sort of…increase his output.” With improvements, Núñez could become a key player, making his departure less likely.

Alisson Becker’s Commitment to Liverpool

Rumors of Alisson Becker’s move to Saudi Arabia have also surfaced. However, Lynch states, “Sources close to the player also insist that Alisson Becker is absolutely very happy at Anfield.” Alisson is under contract until 2027, and with a strong working relationship with coach Claudio Taffarel, it seems improbable that he will leave. “Liverpool don’t have any concerns in terms of being tested by any sort of offer that comes in,” Lynch reassures fans.

Luis Díaz and the 50/50 Scenario

Luis Díaz’s future is less certain, with potential interest from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Lynch notes, “It’s an interesting one…almost 50/50 at the moment.” While Díaz has shown promise, Liverpool might consider selling him if a significant offer arises, potentially reinvesting in a more prolific scorer.

Contract Conundrums: Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk

Several key players are nearing the end of their contracts, including Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk. Lynch confirms, “Mohamaed Salah will absolutely stay put at Liverpool Football Club no matter what this summer.” However, extending Salah’s contract beyond 2024 could be challenging due to his high wage demands and recent performance decline.

Alexander-Arnold’s situation is similarly complex. As Lynch puts it, “There’s confidence that his deal will get sorted out.” Liverpool see him as a future captain, making his contract renewal a priority.

Van Dijk, despite being 32, is still seen as a crucial part of the squad. “I thought he was one of Liverpool’s best players last season,” Lynch remarks, suggesting that a new deal for the Dutch defender is likely.

Potential Departures: Kelleher and Tsimikas

Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool’s talented backup goalkeeper, might seek first-team football elsewhere. Lynch explains, “He’s at an age now where he’s ready to play regularly…it’s going to be time for all parties really to shake hands on a departure.”

Similarly, Kostas Tsimikas could leave in search of more playing time. “He barely featured in the second half of the season…I think this is a summer really where he maybe makes the decision that it’s time to move on,” Lynch speculates.

The transfer window promises to be a busy period for Liverpool. While some players’ futures remain uncertain, the club is committed to making strategic decisions to strengthen the squad. As Lynch concludes, “There’s so much more to get into in the coming weeks in terms of incomings, and I’m sure things will start to heat up around that.”
