Tottenham complete Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer from Southampton

According to reputed journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Tottenham have completed the signing of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish international will be arriving at the club in a deal worth £15m rising to £19m with add-ons. The 25-year-old will be signing a five-year contract with the club, bringing an end to a long drawn out transfer saga. (h/t The Athletic)

Hojbjerg has been linked heavily with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur for a couple of months now. The midfieler, who was in the final year of his contract with the Saints, had refused to pen an extension, that saw him get removed from club captaincy duties. (h/t Daily Mail)

Negotiations between Southampton and Tottenham had been going on for a while, but there had been a difference in valuation. Everton tried to swoop in and capitalise on this and reportedly even had an offer accepted by the Saints. However, Hojbjerg was intent on signing for Tottenham only. (h/t Daily Mail)

And now, it seems like we have been able to strike an agreement for the signing of the former Bayern Munich star. A transfer fee of £15m which would rise to £19m seems a bargain for a player given his age and experience in the Premier League.

Ornstein further revealed that Hojbjerg will undergo a medical with Tottenham at the beginning of the next week.

  • Serge Aurier agrees to AC Milan switch
  • Tottenham, Everton interested in signing Leon Bailey
  • Tottenham uninterested in signing free agent Ryan Fraser

Hojbjerg should prove to be a fine addition to the squad. Good start to the transfer window, now on to the next one.
