On his third appearance and first start for his country, Zirkzee grabbed his first Netherlands goal, heading in after a shot from Xavi Simons was blocked.

Towards the end of the first half and with the scores level at 1-1, Zirkzee teed up Tijani Reijnders for the Netherlands' second goal of the evening.

"Yes, very proud, a proud moment," reflected to UEFA.com post-match.

"My family was here, my grandparents came to watch me for the first time in a very long time, so it was a great day for all of us.

"Obviously Bosnia-Herzegovina defended in their own half and it was up to us to look for combinations and to find each other, and we could have been even more clinical today even though we did a great job. So overall I think it was OK."

In an interview with Dutch TV, Zirkzee was a little more critical of his performance, reckoning he should have found Reijnders more often.

"It went OK, I feel like I made a couple mistakes. I could have another assist for Reijnders. We had a good 'click' during the game," he added.

The Netherlands are back in action on Tuesday at home to rivals Germany. After that, Zirkzee will return to United to prepare for their Premier League trip to Southampton on Saturday.
