Bayern Munich will get their Uefa Champions League campaign started on the 14th of September when they face Barcelona.
However, they may have an easier task than expected as Leo Messi has, of course, since moved to PSG on a free transfer after the two sides failed to come to an agreement.
Joshua Kimmich believes that anything less than a Champions League title will be a failure and he’s eyeing a rematch with Messi’s PSG in the final.
“I always used to think that if you didn’t win the Champions League, you’d failed,” said the midfielder.
“With the generation of Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, people also said they weren’t complete if they didn’t win that title.
“I’d love to play against Paris. That’s one of the most beautiful and interesting challenges there is.
“I’ve enjoyed playing against them the last few years, and that hasn’t changed.”
Even with Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, Achraf Hakimi, and more, Kimmich isn’t afraid of PSG overtaking Bayern just yet.
“I think Bayern can be proud of the fact that this club is doing things a slightly different way than many others in Europe,” said the player.
“The fans can identify with that, and that’s important.
“Sometimes I get the impression that everything is spiralling upwards because everyone is looking far too much to the left or the right.
“I think it makes more sense when you look after yourself and find your own way. That goes for clubs as well as players.”
Prior to their Champions League campaign, Bayern will take the road to face Leipzig on the 11th of September.
