Leeds United are reportedly keen on Josh Sargent, with Carlton Palmer believing the striker will leave Carrow Road if Norwich do not win promotion

Leeds United’s hunt for a striker has ignited their interest in Norwich City’s Josh Sargent, and former England international Carlton Palmer believes the American forward is likely to leave Carrow Road - regardless whether or not he ends up at Elland Road.

With Leeds boss Daniel Farke previously managing Sargent at Norwich, the German coach has long admired the 25-year-old’s abilities and reportedly tried to bring him to Leeds last summer.

Now, with Sargent in fine form upon his return from injury, speculation is growing that he could be on the move in the next transfer window.

Speaking about the possibility of a transfer, Palmer shared his thoughts on why a move to a club like Leeds - or even a Premier League side - could be on the cards for Sargent this summer.

Carlton Palmer: “If Norwich do not get promotion, Josh Sargent will be leaving”

Discussing the growing interest in Sargent, Palmer emphasised that Leeds United remain in the market for attacking reinforcements, despite their already impressive goal tally.

“It appears that there is fresh interest from Leeds United in Norwich striker Josh Sargent. Daniel Farke was very keen to bring Josh to the football club previously; last summer he tried to get him, but he wasn’t able,” Palmer said. “He’s scored nine goals and made five assists in 19 appearances - he’s somebody that the manager Daniel Farke is very keen on.”

Leeds’ attacking prowess has been well-documented this season. Despite this, Farke appears eager to add to his attacking ranks.

“It would be interesting to see - he’s definitely looking for firepower, although Leeds United have scored a lot of goals. They’ve scored 68 goals, and it’s been spread - not one player has scored an awful lot of goals.”

Palmer went on to suggest that Norwich's promotion hopes are fading and that if they remain in the Championship, Sargent will almost certainly move on.

“If Norwich don’t get promotion - and it’s highly unlikely, they’d have to get a race on now to get into the playoffs - it would seem that Leeds can agree a fee with Norwich. I think he’ll be one of those players that Daniel Farke would like to bring to the football club.”

Whether or not Leeds is his final destination, Palmer is convinced that Sargent will depart Carrow Road in search of top-flight football.

“But the opportunity to play in the Premier League would be too good an opportunity for him to turn down.”

Why Josh Sargent to Leeds makes sense

Josh Sargent’s potential departure from Norwich has been the subject of speculation for some time, and Leeds’ interest makes sense given Farke’s history with the player.

The American international joined Norwich in 2021 but had a difficult start to life in England, struggling for goals in the Premier League.

However, he has since found his feet in the Championship, where his strength, work rate, and finishing ability have made him a key figure for the Canaries.

Since returning from an ankle injury earlier this year, Sargent has been in excellent form, scoring five goals in as many games.

With Norwich’s promotion chances hanging in the balance, the 25-year-old's performances could play a major role in their fate.

If the Canaries fail to go up, Sargent is likely to attract interest from clubs seeking proven Championship talent - or even Premier League suitors looking for a dynamic forward.

Leeds, currently fighting for automatic promotion, would be an enticing option for Sargent if they return to the top flight.

The club’s high-energy style of play would suit his attributes, and the familiarity with Farke’s system could be an additional draw.

As the season nears its climax, Josh Sargent’s future at Norwich City remains uncertain.

While the Canaries fight to secure a playoff spot, interest in their in-form striker is only growing.

Carlton Palmer’s comments suggest that a departure is increasingly likely if Norwich fail to secure promotion, and with Leeds United among the interested parties, a reunion with Daniel Farke could be on the cards.
