The Celts had been victorious in all three games against their rivals this campaign. That record continued last night (Wednesday), and goalkeeper Josh Clarke had a major part to play in that result.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Clarke expressed his delighted at getting the result over the line after a tough game.

He said: “It’s a really good feeling to have won the Glasgow Cup! It was a big team performance, everyone worked really hard during the game.

‘We probably should have won the game in normal time. But either way, we are delighted to lift the trophy.’

The shot-stopper saved an impressive four spot-kicks on the way to victory, with Celtic winning the shoot-out 4-3.

The 18-year-old was thrilled to have contributed between the sticks, as he reflected on all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at Lennoxtown.

“It’s always nice to contribute in a big way, and help the boys in front of me,” he said. “There is a lot of work that also goes in behind the scenes with Colin Meldrum and all the goalkeepers.

‘So it was really good to be able to put that performance on this evening.’

“Overall it was a huge team effort, and we are buzzing to get it over the line.

“Fair play to all the boys that stepped up, even the ones that missed. Having the bottle to step up and take one was big from them.

“A huge well done to all the boys who stepped up, and we got the job done in the end.”

Another victory at Ibrox for the Hoops rounds off what has been an extremely busy campaign for the young Celtic side.

It has been a strong season for the Bhoys, who have tested themselves against a number of different opposition teams across Scotland, England and Europe.

The young Celts were also able to finish the season off in ideal style, lifting silverware in the Glasgow Cup, which Clarke believes is a well-deserved reward for their hard work.

He said: “It’s very nice to be able to end the season with a trophy. In general, it’s probably been a successful season for the team.

‘We have put in some good performances in all the competitions we have been in.’

“So it’s just really nice to finish it all off with a trophy.”
