An insight into the ban set to be handed down to Roma head coach José Mourinho has been provided late on Sunday evening.

For those who may have missed it, this comes after Mourinho was shown his latest red card.

Roma marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Atalanta to the Stadio Olimpico for a crunch clash in the race for European football.

When all was said and done, the two sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils, after Teun Koopmeiners’ opener was cancelled out by Paulo Dybala.

Late in proceedings in Italy’s capital, though, tensions boiled over. This came as the aforementioned Mourinho was shown a straight red card by referee Gianluca Aureliano, after one of his offences was especially overlooked.

Why exactly, though, was ‘Mou’ punished?

Well, an insight into as much has tonight been provided. As per a report from TuttomercatoWeb, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan head coach was dismissed as a result of his excessive reaction to a challenge involving Romelu Lukaku and Isaac Hien.

A one-match ban, as a result, awaits.

This will not be served in midweek, however, when Roma go toe-to-toe with arch rivals Lazio in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.

Instead, Mourinho will be unable to take his place on the touchline next Sunday, when the Giallorossi face another stern test, in the form of a Serie A showdown with Stefano Pioli’s Milan.
