Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to reunite with Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Roma this summer.

The 27-year-old will have a year left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and although the Blues have an option to extend his stay for a further year, Football Insider report that they are not keen to activate the extension.

Chelsea will therefore listen to offers for Loftus-Cheek with the new owners staunchly against the idea of allowing players’ contracts to run down and allowing them to leave on free transfers.

There is interest in Loftus-Cheek in the Premier League but he’s also drawing the eye in Serie A, with the report stating AC Milan are ‘incredibly keen’ along with Roma.

Mourinho, who handed Loftus-Cheek his senior debut for Chelsea in 2014, is still thought to be a big admirer of the midfielder, who has played a significant role for the Blues this season.

The England international mas made 27 appearances for Graham Potter’s side across all competitions this season and has started three of their last four Premier League games.

Loftus-Cheek is currently valued at €25m by Transfermarkt and his sale would be particularly useful to Chelsea as they look to balance the books.

The club announced losses for the financial year up to June 30, 2022 of £121million ($149m), which includes the period affected by the government imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich.

Any sale of an academy graduate like Loftus-Cheek would count as pure profit and help Chelsea comply with financial fair play regulations.

What’s more, if they cash in on Loftus-Cheek before the end of June, the transfer fee will be included in their accounts for the year up to June 30, 2023, which is crucial given the club spent £600m on new players in the last two transfer windows.

That’s , who is yet to agree new terms with Chelsea after the club’s stance on his sale soured  their relationship, and may end up pushing him to Liverpool.
