According to Mirror Football, Mourinho has reached the point of no return and will be relieved of his duties “whatever the outcome” of Saturday’s match against Newcastle.
United – currently winless in their last five – have fallen under the 55-year-old who is losing support of the fans, players and now seemingly vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
The Reds were booed off after their 0-0 home draw to Valencia on Wednesday, which is said to have finally convinced the United hierarchy that “change is needed”.
However, after signing a new two-year deal in January, Mourinho is set to receive compensation of around €25m. Michael Carrick could be put in temporary charge.
The report also claims that former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is favourite to take over at Old Trafford.
