AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has decided to continue at Stadio Olimpico and fulfil his contract until 2024, reports Corriere dello Sport.

The Portuguese boss has done an impressive job with Giallorossi, helping them win the Europa Conference League last year and turning them into top-four contenders this season.

However, rumours of his exit have been hovering for some time, with Paris Saint-Germain and West Ham United identifying Mourinho as a top candidate for the managerial position.

The Brazilian national team enquired about Mourinho’s availability for their vacant head coach role. However, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti is in pole position for the job.

Mourinho wants to ensure he has enough financial backing in the transfer market from Roma directors Dan Friedkin and Tiago Pinto to continue at the club.

The former Chelsea manager has now made up his mind to stay at the Italian capital for one more season.

Mourinho made the decision shortly before the international break during his short vacation with his family in London.

His continuity may well help Roma to keep hold of Paulo Dybala, who has been heavily linked with an exit just after one season.

Mourinho convinced the Argentine playmaker to move to Stadio Olimpico last summer on a free transfer.

The two share a great relationship, and Dybala has become a cult figure among the fans following his great impact this season.

The Giallorossi suffered a defeat against Lazio in a frantic capital derby before the international break, which also prevented them from moving into the top four.

Mourinho’s men are fifth in the Serie A table, trailing AC Milan by a point.

Roma will face Sampdoria when the league resumes next weekend.
