Jose Mourinho went ballistic at the referee and was shown a red card in Roma’s Serie A clash against Atalanta on Sunday afternoon.
Roma fell behind in the match in the 35th minute courtesy of Giorgio Scalvini’s strike.
The 18-year-old picked up the ball just outside of Roma’s box, composed himself, and then struck a beautiful curled effort into the bottom corner.
That was his first goal of the season and just the second goal he has scored in his professional career.
Tempers flared in the second half when Roma were denied a penalty.
Nicolo Zaniolo went down inside the box after a tussle with Caleb Okoli.
The Roma midfielder thought he should have had a spot-kick but the referee gave the foul Atalanta’s way.
Mourinho was not happy at all as he charged onto the pitch and exploded with rage.
He screamed at the referee and had to be held back by security. He was subsequently shown a red card and was forced to make his way to the stands.
Mourinho will now be banned for his side’s trip to take on Inter Milan at San Siro on October 1.
That means Mourinho will not be in the dugout for his side’s game against his former club.
Mourinho has been shown a red card multiple times in his Roma career.
He was sent off against Verona in February and was handed a two-game ban for making a gesture at the referee.
The 59-year-old was also shown a red card in a pre-season match against Real Betis in 2021.
Roma were unable to find an equaliser as Atalanta held on to their lead and took all three points.
Atalanta have jumped to the top of the Serie A table and remain unbeaten from their opening seven games to start the season.
Roma are positioned in seventh and are four points behind the league leaders.
