Real, of course, kicked the club’s continental campaign back into gear earlier this week.

Drawn against Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in the Champions League’s Last-16, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops emerged from the tie’s first leg at the Red Bull Arena with a crucial advantage.

As much came owing to a solitary goal, netted by midfielder Brahim Díaz in spectacular fashion early in the 2nd-half.

Real, as a result, will no doubt fancy their chances of booking a spot in the competition’s quarter-finals, before mounting yet another deep run towards European glory.

And, as alluded to above, one individual hopeful of the capital giants managing precisely that, comes in the form of José Mourinho.

Portuguese tactician Mourinho of course held the managerial reins at the Santiago Bernabéu earlier in his legendary career, lifting all of La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup between 2010 and 2013.

A full decade on from his time in Spain’s capital, though, the 61-year-old evidently still reserves a special place in his heart for Real Madrid.

This comes with Mourinho, during an interview with FIVE‘s Rio Ferdinand this week, having confirmed his hope that Los Merengues ultimately go on to lift a historic 15th Champions League trophy later this year:

“I would love Real Madrid to win the Champions League again,” he began. “For the club, and Carlo Ancelotti.”
