Former Roma boss Jose Mourinho seems to have regretted his decision to turn down Portugal for Roma a year ago, when the opportunity first came up.

The Special One was recently interviewed by CNN Romania and was asked about some of the more salient moments and decisions of his career including the opportunity to coach Portugal which he ended up declining a year ago when he was still head coach of the Giallorossi.

“It was a difficult decision. It was probably a mistake,” said Mourinho.

“Not entirely wrong because I want to work every day, I want to train every day,” continued the Portuguese technician. “I want to play 2, 3 games a week. In this sense, a job with the Portugal national team is different. You have to travel, observe the players, choose them. You don’t have time to train them that much.”

“Portugal is a fantastic team. Incredible players. The best generation. Portugal can win the European Championship as well as the World Cup.”

“I think training Portugal will be a natural conclusion to my career, returning home…”

“My biggest achievement? Reaching two European finals with Roma. It’s impossible to do, I doubt anyone else will ever do it again,” he added.
