Jose Mourinho lasted two and a half years at Roma, but he lasted just 18 months at Tottenham Hotspur.

The charismatic Portuguese legend was appointed in November 2019 after Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking and quickly set about trying to build a squad that would suit the ‘Mourinho way’.

However, this didn’t last long – he was sacked in April 2021. His tenure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was a short one, but he certainly left his mark at Hotspur Way.

His mark included making seven signings for Tottenham Hotspur, so just how have they fared since his departure?

Giovani Lo Celso was signed by Mourinho after a successful loan spell with Spurs. They made the move from Real Betis permanent, completing a £27.2m transfer in January 2020.

Lo Celso never really kicked on after this, despite incredible potential – that is until the present day.

Where is he now?

Tottenham Hotspur: That is until right now when the Argentine has finally found form again under Ange Postecoglou. He’s playing a lot more this season, featuring 10 times and obtaining two goals and two assists. The future now looks bright at Tottenham for the Argentine – when in the past it looked so bleak.

Joe Rodon

Spurs had high hopes for Rodon when he joined from Swansea in October 2020, but it hasn’t quite worked out for him.

He managed a few games under Mourinho but was loaned out by Antonio Conte and Postecoglou in search of minutes.

Where is he now?

Leeds United: Rodon is currently on a season-long loan at Leeds United. The Welsh international has featured 25 times already for the Championship club.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Tottenham signed midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, with full-back Kyle Walker-Peters heading in the opposite direction in August 2020 for a fee of around £25m.

The Denmark international had impressed the entirety of the Premier League during his time with the Saints, but it was Mourinho who secured his signature.

Where is he now?

Tottenham Hotspur: Hojbjerg remains at Tottenham, despite speculation he could have moved in the summer. He’s played 167 times for Spurs over four years.

Joe Hart

Former Burnley and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer in August 2020.

Jose Mourinho was looking for an experienced backup English keeper and decided Hart was the right man for the job.

Where is he now?

Celtic: Hart only featured 10 times for the first-team squad, which led him to seek game time elsewhere, which he’s found in Scotland.

He moved to Celtic in August 201 and has since played 133 games for the Hoops.

Matt Doherty

On the 30th of August 2020, Matt Doherty was sold to Tottenham Hotspur for £13.4 million with no add-ons and signed a four-year deal.

The Irishman was one of the Premier League’s top full-backs at Wolves at the time and earned himself an upgrade to North London thanks to his performances.

Where is he now?

Wolves: Doherty has come full circle. Despite signing on a four-year deal, he only managed three seasons with Spurs, accumulating 71 games in the process.

He went on a bizarre loss to Atletico Madrid in January 2023 before permanently moving on a free transfer to his former club in July of that year.

Steven Bergwijn

Tottenham signed winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven on a five-and-a-half-year deal back in January 2021.

The Dutch international made an instant impact for Jose Mourinho at Spurs, scoring a stunning volley against Manchester City on his debut.

Where is he now?

Ajax: Sadly, along with his two goals against Leicester, this was as good as it got for Bergwijn at Tottenham.

He moved back to the Eredivisie in July 2022, where he’s refound form. He has 24 goals in 66 games.

Sergio Reguilon

Tottenham Hotspur fended off Manchester United to sign Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid on a five-year deal, for a fee which could rise to £32m.

The Spanish full-back arrived with great expectation, having been performing excellently in La Liga.

Where is he now?

Tottenham Hotspur: Just. Reguilon has been on loan with United this season but has been sent back to North London.

After not impressing whilst at Spurs, he looks to be shipped off again soon having played 67 times.
