A new report in the British press has confirmed that José Mourinho wants to return to Real Madrid and is confident he will succeed Zinedine Zidane at Santiago Bernabéu.

It was revealed on Saturday that the Portuguese tactician had rejected a number of offers from all over the world since being sacked by Manchester United in December.

But now a well-sourced story from Duncan Castles in the Sunday Times has revealed that Mourinho is ready to wait for the Blancos job to become available.

Castles, who is known to have a close relationship with Mourinho, has claimed that the double Champions League-winner wants to return to Real, having enjoyed a successful three year spell there between 2010 and 2013.

Mourinho is apparently aware that the dressing room could be put into a state of unrest should he replace Zidane, but the ex-Chelsea man is confident he can succeed due to his positive relationship with president Florentino Peréz.

Peréz reportedly wants a more tactically astute coach and is keen to bring Mourinho in so he can keep in check some of the egos in the squad.

Real Madrid are currently top of LaLiga but only an extended run of positive results are likely to keep Zidane in the job before Christmas.

Mourinho was recently doing the rounds in the Spanish press and admitted that his time in Madrid was “the most beautiful of my career”.
